Living Books

The literature component of the program is also referred to as “living books”, in which students learn about a concept, event, or character through stories directly associated with the corresponding time period. The academic growth occurs with open-ended discussion questions that provides context, empathy, and deeper understanding of the event and circumstances around it.

History

BookShark Virtual schedules roughly 30 books per year, with approximately 10 books scheduled as Read-Alouds in which the parent has the choice to read to their student. The volume of reading, listening, and discussion materially improves a student’s reading speed, vocabulary, and comprehension while they learn history. BookShark Virtual language arts can be directly integrated into the History Program.

Science

BookShark Virtual offers a literature-based Science program that meets NGSS standards. You can learn more about our unique Science program that combines our literature-based approach with an NGSS standards experiment on our Science page.

Homeschool to Virtual

Literature-based learning has been used for decades as the premier homeschool approach. It has proven to be highly academic and provides students the communication and critical thinking skills to excel in all learning environments. The importance of open-ended discussion in lieu of assessment has made it difficult for classrooms and online schools to adopt. BookShark Virtual has developed a platform to offer this proven approach to virtual schools that require tracking and assessment.

Math

BookShark Virtual offers all the preferred homeschool math programs including: Math-U See: Saxon; Singapore; and RightStart.  These math programs can be packaged with BookShark Virtual All-Subject packages with a 20% discount.  Note: Math programs are offered in their traditional format and not integrated into BookShark’s Virtual platform.
