Reading with History

The centerpiece of BookShark curriculum

The Centerpiece

Through BookShark Virtual’s Reading with History program, students learn from multiple perspectives and engage in thought-provoking discussion. Choose BookShark History, and your students will receive an engaging and complete education through a variety of academic resources including fiction, nonfiction, biographies, and illustrated books.

What’s Included In BookShark History?

The best of both worlds. Literature-based learning from real books, hands-on projects, and discussion while using the online platform for assessment, multi-media, and grading. Each History course includes 12-month BookShark Virtual access and all the books and materials necessary to complete the course.

The course is completely planned, including discussion questions, vocabulary, geography, and timeline to help you and your child interact with the reading and make lasting connections among the people, places, and events you study.

What’s Missing From BookShark History?

Textbooks and focus on memorization. Textbook and online curriculums provide a single perspective, so students are less likely to retain a deep understanding of history. BookShark packages include 25 to 30 real books that your students will either read or have read aloud to them throughout the year. Instead of skimming through text and memorizing content, BookShark students learn how to think through and discuss historical events.

Integrated Learning

Starting in Level D, BookShark integrates the History books with Readers, Read-Alouds, and Language Arts. If your student is studying Ancient Rome, their History books, Readers, and Read Alouds will all coincide with Rome, and their Language Arts writing assignments will also center around Ancient Rome. This approach enables students to read, hear, discuss, and write about the topic. There are few programs that enable students to gain a thorough understanding of historical events while building their vocabulary and developing their reading, vocabulary, communication, and writing skills.

The BookShark approach is the truly enjoyable and mentally stimulating way to learn at home!

We love BookShark! The 4-day week is perfect for taking the pressure off, knowing that you can have a make-up day or plan a fun field trip day. The books and materials provided are high quality, fun, and easy to navigate. The concept of learning through literature has ignited a passion for books in our daughter, and she can't get enough reading outside our homeschool work. I can't say enough great things about BookShark, and I can't wait for the next level for fall!

We’re not religious, and we have found it hard to find a good secular homeschool curriculum that fits our lifestyle. Discovering BookShark was amazing. Other curriculums required us to skip entire sections due to the religious nature.

I’m so glad we chose the Bookshark Kindergarten curriculum because it is reinforcing my love for reading and passing the desire to read onto my son. He has even begun choosing books over other forms of entertainment, and my momma heart couldn’t be happier about that.
